This may sound like a bit of a nebulous thought, but has anyone stopped and considered what people are buying in to with this stuff? I’m barely 100 lbs, more often less than that, and I’m perfectly fine with the way I look. Would it not be better to teach people to be happy with themselves than reach for an ideal that is merely the consensus of what people think is the right look?

better than being happy with yourself, is THINKING for yourself. I dont workout because I’m working towards looking like a calvin klein model, I do it because IT makes me happy. if you can be a tiny 100 pound thing and be happy with that congrats. same with huge women who feel sexy. all the power to you. but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel healthy.

No, there isn’t anything wrong with it, and if it sounded like I implied it was, my apologies, it wasn’t my intent. Rather, I only wished to point out that it seems like the inherent theme with the motivation behind doing these things is some inherent sense of gaining some superiority over others. That looking that way makes you better. That is the part I have difficulty coming to terms with.

Is it true that if u develop your leg muscles a lot, it will help to burn off more fat overall, since it is a big muscle?

feel the burn…lol
November 10th, 2009 at 2:01 am
yes there are very large muscle groups in your legs that will burn more calories than some of the smaller muscle groups.
but you should still do cardio if you a really serious about burning fat.

Yeah i know all these teens in my high school work out chest and arms all day. They look FUCKING RETARDED. Their ankles and calves are scrawny, and they look like gorillas. Your legs might be the largest muscle group in the body (I don’t know about the back), you burn like 3x more cals. than curling your arms.

For some people, like myself, it’s about reaching a goal you thought you never could. I myself am 145 lbs but I cannot gain any weight if I tried (ectomorphic body type). But in this sense, I know that it IS possible to get to 200 lbs of muscle, since Vince has done it, and that’s what I want to achieve for myself. It’s all about breaking your limitations and having a powerful physique to show for it. That is why I work out: to prove to myself that I CAN do something difficult.
